Handcrafted Lampwork Beads by David Fousek
About
Me...
I'm a lampwork artist with several years experience.
I live and work at my small business in Columbia, Missouri. Although
I hold two B.S. degrees in engineering, art is a major theme in the
lives of my family and me.
At mid-life, I began to look
around for a more meaningful and personally satisfying means of
support other than the corporate rat race I was in. After a couple
endeavors proved not to my liking, I discovered glass art and was
immediately hooked. At this stage in my life, it's a great outlet for
my inherent artistic bent, as well as providing gratification for my
scientific side in working with the physics of the medium.
I
find the most pleasing designs (to me, anyway) to be those that take
advantage of what the glass itself will do of its own accord, if the
various elements of the design are brought together in such a way as
to let the glass and colors flow, form, and magically change into a
thing of beauty. (Well, sometimes not, but we just keep up the 3 P's,
right?)
I often feel that I'm not the artist, but just the
guy who sets up the canvas and the paint, & allows God's natural
laws to produce the final work. It really is awesome the way glass
works, isn't it? Gravity, energy, chemistry, light, and the physical
properties of the medium itself all combine to bring into being a
wonderful and lasting expression of nature that is all around us if
we just know where and how to look.
My late father was a well
respected artist, with work on permanent record in 6 major museums,
with many prodigious awards to his credit, and I'm proud to say, is
listed in Who's Who in American Art. (Hope it's ok to brag a little
on my Dad here. I intend to have some of his work here soon as well,
so anyone with an interest in WPA art, and stylized landscape prints,
please check back soon.).
I hope to see you soon on ebay, and
please check back here often for updates, new fun tool-toys, and my
latest lampwork items for sale. Thanks for stopping by, and please do
feel free to email me any time with questions, comments, etc. I'd
love to hear from you!
By the way, here's the seemingly
obligatory statement (on ebay anyway) re annealing, etc.
My
Lampwork beads are always kiln annealed under computer control, and
cleaned with a BeaDreamer.
That's
because I care about my work, and about my customers, and as they
say; Its the right thing to do...
Thanks for your visit to my
site, and enjoy the wonderful medium of glass art.
Dave
